ADR writing a book on DIC's Sailor Moon Dub

I was surprised to see that apparently, the voice director who worked on the first 65 episodes of DIC's Sailor Moon dub is going to be releasing a book about his experience:

While the dub was pretty crazy at times, this was an important series in America's legacy of TV dubs, so to speak, so I'm actually interested in it. I've heard a few of the voice actors talk about the subject, but it should be fun to hear from the ADR himself. And supposedly many of the voice actors are contributing info & photos for it, too.

I'd be really interested in reading this. In general, I find this particular era of fandom fascinating, and I would love to learn more from someone who was actually involved in English dub production during the nineties.

I feel exactly the same way! I know most of the people involved with the old dub of Sailor Moon didn't have much experience with working on anime and had no idea that the series would be as big of a hit as it ended up being...so I'm curious to hear about stuff that was happening behind the scenes (plus I'm a voice acting nerd, and I do it myself as a hobby--though someday I'd love to work on it as a job). I'm already looking forward to hearing more about it!

I'm sure the book will discuss why the voice actor for Usagi (I think they called her Sabrina or Serina) changed after the first 10 episodes or so. The first voice was cute, but the second one made the character more interesting.

Yup, Serena! The funny thing about that is Tracey Moore (who was the first voice) was replaced by Terri Hawkes for the rest of the first 65 eps & movies apparently had taken over each other's roles for other things, too (I watched a vid on Youtube of Terri Hawks talking about Sailor Moon, and she said either she replaced Moore's character on the original Care Bears, or that Moore replaced HER, I can't remember XD lol).
I wish they hadn't tried to "voice match" once they had to replace Terri Hawkes...Linda Balyntine (I'm sure I spelled that wrong

), who replaced her for the rest of the TV dub sounded like a weird caricature of Terri's "Serena" more than anything to me.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I didn't usually notice the change between various voice actors when I was younger.

I only noticed the switch in Sailor Moon when I picked up some dubbed VHS tapes years later.
I do remember noticing the switch between Brian Drummond and Christopher Sabat playing the role of Vegeta in DragonBall Z...although I have no explanation as to why I didn't notice the rest of the voices changing.
Usamimi, if you don't mind, please keep us updated on the status and release date of this book!

Haha, I didn't notice at first, either, and I'm usually pretty good at catching that! They actually did sound fairly similar.
I'll definitely update if I hear more about it!

Can't believe they are doing this. Sailor Moon is one of many reasons why I became an anime fan and was excited when it premiered in America on Sept 11, 1995

I was thinking about this recently, and was happy to find out that this has been released. You can buy
Sailor Moon Reflections: The inside story of the original recordings of the English version of Sailor Moon on Amazon.

Ah, yes, thank you! I'd been meaning to update this but it just kept slipping my mind
Actually a friend of mine read it recently and she said that she was a little disappointed in it because she said the way the book was structured, it didn't give a whole lot of insight on the actual creation of the dub or why certain choices were made, but more of "Hey look we made this great thing!" *lots of back-patting all around*. So I dunno when I'll read it. Maybe if the price goes a bit lower, lol.
