The "Check this item out on eBay" Thread

The roughly mid-90's and earlier (generally pre-Toonami, pre-anime boom) era of anime & manga fandom: early cons, clubs, tape trading, Nth Generation VHS fansubs, old magazines & fanzines, fandubs, ancient merchandise, rec.arts.anime, and more!

Maybe there's a 500 pound bag of cocaine involved in the auction, but he forgot to mention it? LOL

Lot of 94 VHS tapes: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371161606823?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

Some of these have things recorded off of TV, but there's also a bunch of old fansubs in there (some with custom labels! how fancy! ) Ah, I remember when I had mountains of VHS tapes like that. ~memories~

I find these at estate sales all the time. No one wants them. I have 7,000 now. Don't need anymore...

Wow I'm surprised people wanted them! I have a ton in my grandparent's house if I can ever get to them, but I'd never sell them...

This is ridiculous. Some gouger on YAJ is wanting 23,000 yen for the three LDs of Yamato 2520 plus the "episode 0" LD. I just got these (minus the third LD) for about 5,000. Unless the third is super crazy rare, then this is pretty ridonk.

Ludicrous LD pricing has been going on for a while. Hard Off in Kurume wanted something like 37,000Y for Gundam ZZ TV Box on LD back in 2009 and I've been seeing stuff tick up on eBay when I check every few months.

The Hard Off in Kofu City, Yamanashi-ken has a considerably large collection of LDs, and consequently a large selection of anime LDs. All of their prices are very fair there, so I don't know if it depends on the title or if times have changed. I picked up all six LDs of Macross II for 100 yen each last year.

I'm itching to go back there, since I haven't been to that store in nearly a year. If there's anything you or anyone else wants me to keep an eye out for, just let me know!

Yeah, the LD section in Kurume-shi, Fukuoka-ken was fairly small when compared with some other sections like their video games section. Nothing as good as the deals in Yamanashi-ken. The ZZ price tag got committed to memory because of how expensive it was and it was one of the few titles I'd have actually been interested in picking up.

... And to stay a bit on topic, toy collectors are weird:

It's nothing spectacular but I wanted to share it, just so I can "whine" about how I can't buy it, but I want it real bad...

Normally I see Ranma 1/2 settei/drawings for the TV series, I don't really see them like this for the OVA series, which is my favorite of the Ranma anime, and a huge influence on my art. *makes grabby hands*
