Rebuilding, upgrading, and expanding my anime manga collection has been on my mind for some time now. I have a reasonable amount of anime, but I am missing a lot of anime that I have seen that I would like to watch over and over again. Little odds and ends like "Perfect Blue" and "Akira" would be nice to have around. I would like to have all of the "Budda" collection. Not to mention some old "Lum" trades that I fingered through so often the book broke apart. There is just something about reading manga that you experience over and over again.
What would you guys want to get for your collection? How you go about tracking down rare videos? Would you bother getting the "B" rated stuff? Would you focus on anime or manga? I am leaning toward getting more manga myself because you can get digital copies of a lot of anime titles.
What is missing from your anime or manga collection?
Re: What is missing from your anime or manga collection?
Almost anything made past '95 is missing from my collection. With a few exceptions. But that is by choice. I don't have any long TV shows like UY, Ranma, Dragonball, etc. I need stories that end. Heck, my favorite anime tend to be short OAVs.
The two anime that I would like to have that are missing from my collection are Kimagure Orange Road and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Both are ridiculously expensive now.

The last two volumes of Aura Battler Dunbine. By the time I started collecting that show, those two volumes were already OOP and rare. I really had no guilt in downloading the .mkv files for those so that my wife and I could see the rest of the show and watch everyone die. I am just going to give up on these two. They have become impossibly expensive.
Zenki. I only have the first bundle. I'd like to get the rest of this show before it becomes expensive. Maybe it already is? I should check. I heart Chisa Yokoyama.
Record of Lodoss War, the TV series. I really need to get this.
Captain Harlock TV series. Come to think of it, my wife and I never did complete this show back when via fansubs, because they disappeared once it became licensed.

Greg, if you like Tomino and Dunbine/kill em all endings, have you seen Ideon!? I cannot recommend that series enough, ever since I got my hands on the LDs in the 90's it has been my favorite.greg wrote:The last two volumes of Aura Battler Dunbine. I just found out there's a volume 4 of "Stop! Hibari-Kun!" Now I gotta seek that one out.
Re: What is missing from your anime or manga collection?
I just realized I forgot to respond to the original question, sorry about that. Anyway, my "missing" list is actually pretty huge; I had a massive VHS tape and LD collection that I never fully upgraded to Blu-ray/DVD. I'm a little bit of a retro video enthusiast, so I wasn't in a rush to replace all of my LDs and tapes. Well, as luck would have it I lost a huge portion of them when the roof collapsed on an old out building on my family's property that I used for storage a few winters ago (I had lived in an apartment for awhile so obviously all of them wouldn't fit). The VHS I'm willing to let go of, but I'm trying to build back up my Animeigo LD collection that I lost a lot of, way too many titles to list offhand. Enough to keep me busy on ebay for years to come, anyway.

For some reason I want the entire DVD series of Gall Force. I know the franchise really ain't all that hot, but every time I think about the concept I want to watch and own the whole series again.
I'm also missing 1 or 2 boxsets from the middle of the Viz Maison Ikkoku DVD run. I think I mentioned this here before and someone said they were pretty superfluous episodes (I'm basically missing the whole subplot about Godai and that high school girl who crushed on him) but for completist's sake I feel I should complete it someday.
I second Perfect Blue, yusaku. I'm still waiting for a U.S. blu ray release for that.

Re: What is missing from your anime or manga collection?
oh my gosh SO MANY, way too many for me to list.
What kills me is that some of these old DVDs? People on Amazon get it in their heads that they're SUPER VALUABLE and want crazy-insane amounts of money for them. Take Gall Force, for example...that's one I want to get all of, too, since I love Sonoda's art. But some of those volumes are ridiculously priced! $60 for Earth Chapter? $43 for Stardust War? What's the point when people are selling the complete collection for $130?
I really wish I hadn't sold my copies of the original Birdy The Mighty OAVs...I really liked that series, and people want WAY too much for the second DVD.

I don't know if you guys still have LD players or are interested in them, but Gall Force can still be had really reasonably on LD. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid= ... &_from=R40usamimi wrote:oh my gosh SO MANY, way too many for me to list.

I said this in another thread, but in a lot of cases the LDs had better transfers than the DVDs for these older series, I'm not sure about Gall Force though. A lot of it depends on your hardware too, but I use a Pioneer LD player via S-Video with an XRGB-3 scaler, and in 1080p on my plasma it gives even the best upscaling DVD players a run for their money.

Unfortunately, I do not own an LD player. I wouldn't mind getting one eventually, though--for trying to get import LDs of stuff that hasn't gotten DVD releases over here.
