Will apparently be 50 episodes, 5-minutes long:

This could be interesting, considering how short they'll be. I kinda hope they're just the good ol' Tenchi characters doing silly, goofy things. I could get into something like that!

This could be very interesting! Have any other anime series used this format? At five minutes an episode, it almost sounds more like something that would stream on YouTube or similar sites.

Well, there's similar "short" anime...like, Seiki-kun is 15 minutes per episode, or the new "Insufficient Direction" anime which are 3-minute shorts. Those were on TV. I remember there was a Haruhi series of shorts on Youtube a while back. There's probably some others, but those were the first that came to my mind.

These sound really fun, sincr I'm always interested in anything promoting Japanese culture! Plus I'll take this over any of those "canon" doujins being animated! (Yuck!)

Oh, definitely! I hope it's just something fun, like I said before. I assume it'd be, because really how much serious "plot" could you cram into a 5-minute show?

I think the short format, while 5 minutes is still unusually short, will be beneficial for easily moving the series from TV broadcast to various net-broadcast outlets, like YouTube or NicoNico Douga. What's got me is it that Cool Japan has run out of ideas, they've got to use Tenchi Muyo!? The article states a city in Okayama is fronting the money in exchange for being featured to enhance tourism, are they looking only for national travel or are they going to be looking for more international visitors as well?

Given everything else the various Tenchi series have used as plot devices, would you be that surprised?

oh gosh I hope it's not some sorta War on Geminar or GXP spin-off or something. You'd think it was the core characters...but I guess we'll see, eh?

I hope not either, really, even if I wind up just having a passing interest in this. At a 5 minute per episode runtime, it's probably best to stick with the relatively central core of characters and have them sitcom their way through town. Trying to strike up a new cast of characters doesn't make much sense to me on this project.

Yeah! That's what I assumed. And since so many old titles are getting re-releases/reboots lately, it'd make more sense to go with the original core characters.
