One of my adult English students recently took a weekend vacation in Taiwan, and visited Jiufen, the inspiration for the alternate dream world in Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, aka Spirited Away. Here is the Wikipedia article for this place. Here is the Japanese Wikipedia article. You can look at a Google image search for this place here.
Isn't this place cool-looking? When I first saw Sen to Chihiro in the theaters in Japan all those years ago, I thought to myself how cool it would be to visit a place like that, with all the red lanterns, staircases, and restaurants everywhere. To discover that the movie was modeled after a real-life location blew me away. She said it only cost her about 20,000 yen for the flight and hotel in Taipei, a package deal. That's cheaper than visiting elsewhere in Japan, even! I'd really like to go there and be "spirited away" myself.
