Re: An index of prominent figures in the early anime fandom?

Also, this article on Iyashikei states that the the first known fansub came out of a C/FO chapter situated near an Air Force base in Japan. Is this the truth, and if yes then which club was it? I don't know about fansubbing, but I think I remember Joe Vecchio being interviewed on a podcast some tim...

Re: The Show Off Your Figures/Models Stuff Thread

Using pretty much free weekends with bad weather, it took me close to a year to finally finish my MG Zeta Gundam. Transforming kits are a beast, so I ended up taking some breaks with it, too by working on a non-anime kit as well (and planning out making a diorama with it). Working on the legs, since...

Re: What are you Watching?

But the one thing I've been really devouring lately is the Diskotek re-release of Great Teacher Onizuka: The Animation. I picked up the set during the same sale a while ago. This is actually the first time I'm watching the anime - I've only read one or two chapters of the manga but most of my knowl...

Re: 1978 - anime's greatest year?

There is way too much Lupin III anime. There, I said it. there was a period in the 1990s and 2000s when they were cranking out a Lupin III TV movie every year, like clockwork, and after a while I just threw up my hands and quit trying to keep track of the things. As a big Lupin fan - I would agree....

Re: Twilight of the Cockroaches?

An itch concerning the film needed scratching and not only did I find a subbed version in addition to the dub, I found someone DID upload the broadcast of Night of the Vampire Robots (complete with commercial breaks!):

Re: Rumiko Takahashi to start new manga Spring 2019

I never got into Rinne either but I will at least be sure to check out the first few chapters of her new work. Probably not the right thread for it but between Inu Yasha and Rinne, I kinda want Takahashi to go back to working a Seinen title or two. Most recently, Takahashi ended her RIN-NE manga in ...

Re: 1978 - anime's greatest year?

I totally neglected to mention the Lupin series that straddled 1978 like a titan. It's definitely a definitive Lupin. It wasn't my intention to be the "you totally forgot this!" guy - I honestly figured you made an editorial decision to not mention the Lupin TV series when talking about a Lup...

Re: A collection of trailers from Manga Video UK

Yeah, seconding what usamimi said - trailers were usually packaged before the feature on the tape you bought, like going to the cinema and seeing the trailer package before the film starts. Usually, if trailers were contained after the feature, they might be Japanese or other trailers for the film, ...

Re: 1978 - anime's greatest year?

As Zimmerit said on Twitter, I'm not sure I agree that 1978 is the single best year of Japanese animation but it is surely one of the most important years and I think the article highlights that. 1978 definitely has a great cross-section of lasting hits and influential cartoons, even a bit of broken...

Re: What are you Watching?

I've been home the last couple of weeks helping my wife with the new baby and have been able to get some anime watching done (in addition to a really deep Netflix queue), which is a great perk! I've given up on convincing my wife to try out Marmalade Boy ; I figured she'd go for the melodrama but sh...
