Re: WTB/WTT: VHS Fansubs

I still have a few tapes of Dr Slump and Fist Of The North Star taped from the Nippon Golden Network subtitling era, myself. It was an exciting time to be getting fairly up to date shows with English subtitles that were broadcast over the air, until suddenly Fuji-TV noticed and pulled the plug. http...

Re: The "Check this item out on eBay" Thread

I still see anime VHS for $1 in the thrifts on occasion -and then I see it in the antique malls for $10. I guess seeing it on Depop or Instagram for $100 is the natural progression of such things. Give it a few years and the fashion victims buying these items as decorations in their hipster pads wil...

Re: annoying tales of anime fandom

OMG, having to copy ALL of Dragonball onto VCD.... that's a nightmare story right there. that's a LOT of VCDs!! What makes it even worse is that you KNOW that guy never watched them all. I'm sure every fan has a similar story of people that overstep the boundaries just a little and then are surprise...

annoying tales of anime fandom

the new Let's Anime is all about the annoying fans we kinda had to deal with back in the days of swapping anime VHS tapes through the mail. Names have been changed to protect the innocent and the guilty and me!

Re: Prominance of Beta in Anime Tape Trading

I know anecdote doesn't equal data, but my experience was when video rentals became a thing, for whatever reason VHS outnumbered Beta like, 10 to 1. If a video rental shop happened to have Beta tapes, they would be all on one shelf tucked way over to the side, while the vast majority of rentals were...

Re: Prominance of Beta in Anime Tape Trading

the only commercial release anime title I had on Beta was a tape of Urusei Yatsura openings, and like a dope I loaned it out to a friend who also had a Beta deck. It vanished into the mists of time. Never loan your tapes out, kids

Re: 1990s Corn Pone Flicks parody subtitle in Blu-Ray HD

I don't know if Project Z knew about the Grendizer movie announcement (this was his project for the most part). I certainly didn't. I'm hoping this new Grendizer thing will stir up whatever pot needs stirring to get Grendizer some kind of English language release! BTW I did put the Devilman parody s...

Re: 1990s Corn Pone Flicks parody subtitle in Blu-Ray HD

I wrote a set of parody lyrics for the Devilman theme song, and only the first stanza shows up in the Mazinger Z vs Devilman movie, but I wrote lyrics for both stanzas. If I get time I'm gonna fan-subtitle the Devilman OP with those parody lyrics.

Re: 1990s Corn Pone Flicks parody subtitle in Blu-Ray HD

so here's another thing, Project Z just completed the re-master of Corn Pone Flicks' Mazinger Z vs Devilman parody sub - this version looks amazing and includes all the footage that was edited out of the 1998 version (and has a few gags re-written because they aged, let's say, poorly) with new fake ...

Re: New article on early anime fandom

I was never a member of the Something Awful forums, though I do have a lot of friends who were. Occasionally I'd see mentions of "ADTRW," without ever knowing what those initials stood for. And now I know. Thanks, I think?
