Series you think that should had been bigger in the West?

IMHO, Golgo 13 and Tetsujin 28. I can understand why the later did not catch on in America, but Golgo 13 felt like it should had been a bigger hit with a noticable fandom. Also, is it true that Lupin III hasn't been selling well outside of Japan, and nostalgia for it which only existed in Japan is o...

What ettiquette was there in the days of Usenet?

I have come across a few article on the Internet in the 1990s, and some of them bemoaned that the early Internet was a much more polite place with its etiquette and self-policing. One even pointed to Eternal September was when the dams broke. So I just wonder what kind of etiquette was there at the ...

Re: Pirating anime music in the 1980s

Did anyone here use MiniDisc when it came out? I always like the type of records/optical discs that you can play from the caddies--that is why I still stick with my PSP and a bunch of UMD. Also, just curious, how do you guys deal with old official anime records? I am curious about whether is there a...

Re: Pirating anime music in the 1980s

Person A would buy the LP and make cassette copies for Persons B and C and D, etc. I still have a cassette of Yamato music that dates from 1985 - side A is Arrivederci Yamato, side B is Final Yamato. For curious's sake, which type of cassette did you use for the Yamato music? Did you have any Type ...

Pirating anime music in the 1980s

How did old school fans pirate anime music in the 1980s? I have read stories of fans recorded the opening and ending themes on 8-tracks and cassettes from the TV, but was there anyone copied music from official OST releases? I knew that some importers did brought cassettes and then CD from Japan to ...

How have the drawings changed over the years?

Have you noticed any little changes to the style and method that anime is animated throughout the years? For example, how have the shapes of the noses been changed, or have color saturation handled better?

Re: Current Gainax President arrested

I just remember that Hideaki Anno gave an interview around the time of the arrest detailing Gainax's sketchy dealings over the years and his falling out with them. You can find the interview here, and the translation here.

Re: The Anime Nostalgia Podcast & Blog

Say, usamimi, do you have any opinions regarding the changes in the anime styles over the years? I sometimes get into discussion with people about things like they don't draw noses the days they used too. Also, just the other days I came across a "How to draw manga" book from the early 2000s. Even i...

Re: An index of prominent figures in the early anime fandom?

Does anyone here know where is animator Steve Bennett (who worked at Urusei Yatsura, and later founded Studio Ironcat) now? He has a Facebook page which says he works for MCCS Marketing Iwakuni (I have no idea that the Marine Corps Community Services need a dedicated marketing firm), but I have no i...

Re: The Anime Nostalgia Podcast & Blog

Since you have touched on this topic in the latest episode, could you maybe consider making a short episode on vendors in anime conventions back in the day? I am not really sure if there will be many serious things to talk about it, but maybe there will be some interesting behind-the-scene stuffs to...
