While my personal favorite style of AMV uses the extended versions of songs from the OST (like this one for Akira: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77zU5JMOqUg) not every vintage anime has a soundtrack that has aged equally well. (^_^;)
I like to believe that new-school AMVs can help break through that resistance barrier that makes so many folks reluctant to check out older shows; as an example, I think this Riding Bean AMV may have helped generate the buzz to get the Kickstarter project off the ground: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1NAhlVRaZ4
A current favorite, encouraging folks to check out the original Dirty Pair Project Eden: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cKL7J-mNVU
Do you have any favorite new-school AMVs that feature old-school anime?

Re: New-school AMVs based off old-school anime?
I had to go digging for it, but one of the last amvs I remembered liking was this short Gunsmith Cats one: https://youtu.be/mV_SxdwLWq0
I made an Armitage III amv a while bad & purposely tried using music that was a bit newer & less mainstream to make it more interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gScsWYNhp5A
Since it was my first attempt at one, its not perfect... But I'm still pretty proud I actually finished it.

"Be sure to change the quality before starting video"
Try as one might, there is no way to make Armitage III look good with any of the existing sources. I have the recent Funi DVD and it's still bad! This OVA really needs a seriously remastered re-release in Japan!

Re: New-school AMVs based off old-school anime?
I'll make a confession, I made AMVs in my early anime fan days in high school. I used good ol (un)reliable Windows Movie Maker to do my stuff back on my parents Windows xp DELL computer. So all it took was whatever I had downloaded from Kazaa/the internet and plugged it up and made whatever I wanted.
So here is my channel going back over a decade at this point: https://www.youtube.com/user/ZeonicFreak/videos
I should note, my only video to be removed was my Record of Lodoss War AMV i had posted on youtube, and it got attention from the drummer from Bal Sagoth (which I picked a song from them in the video) who left a comment on my channel about it. Within a year, some licensing company in Italy put in a request to remove my video, and I haven't bothered to re-upload it since then. I probably should, since im sure I can find it on my external HD somewhere.

Lol! I should remove that from the description. That was back before YT automatically played stuff in the best definition it could & you had to CHOOSE to watch something in higher quality.llj wrote:"Be sure to change the quality before starting video"

This is true. The newer DVDs are only a slight upgrade from the original releases. I assume it was way more popular here than in Japan, tho, so idk if they'd ever bother with a BD release.

A modern AMV for "The Running Man" with over 3 million views! That's impressive in a bunch of different ways, to be honest. (^_^) Hopefully it will encourage more folks to see Neo-Tokyo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mauV2NdCs60

I thought this one was pretty slick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66vOMvaDVZ0
Even though Sailor Moon is part of the anime zeitgeist now, I think that it still takes a bit of work to convince people that a 25-year-old anime aimed at early teen girls is something worth checking out for everybody. (^_^)

Oh that's probably my fave Maria Takeuchi song! An interesting choice for a Sailor Moon SuperS movie amv
Watching this reminded me of another SuperS amv I saw few years ago. I thought it was really well edited! https://youtu.be/nmqqwrxzUN0
