Latest Acquisition

Post by Jen526 »

Well, this isn't exactly a figure in the traditional sense, but I thought I'd share a great music box I got for an absolute steal from an ebay sale. :) I've been needing Porco Rosso represented in my little Studio Ghibli collection for a while. The winning bid price was so low, I half expected it to be horrible knock-off, but the quality is great and it's actually an even *nicer* piece than others I've gotten from this same line - and a lot *bigger* than some of the others, too.

^Looks cool. OOC, in something like that, are the joints in those double-knees on the leg movable? It kinda looks like there's an actual joint there in the picture, but I don't model, so it made me curious.

It's the song that the nightclub singer lady sings in the movie. Ummm... (Googles) ...looks like it's called 'Le Temp des Cerises'.

I haven't figured out how to display stuff in the new house yet, and as I mentioned in another thread, I've never had a flashy otaku cave to show off, but here are some older pictures of my Totoro/Ghibli-related stuff:
  • Music Boxes and few other "statue" type Totoro things. The biggest one, on the second shelf, is actually a lamp or nightlight - he has a bulb inside him and he glows when it's turned on! Also my con badge flamingo. :)
  • Mini DVD shrine w/pretty Mononoke and Ponyo statues.
  • Plushies - a couple non-totoro's in the mix
  • Mei Doll - This is more a pic of my small batch of non-Ghibli figures (mostly One Piece), but it's the only pic I have of my Mei doll, which I adore.

I tend to pre-order a lot from HLJ and Hobby-Search(Rainbow 10 is closing their online sales this month).
Translated the name means "Big Dog" which is also the name of a research project into a 4-legged robot in the States.
Cool, I like it. :)

Also, was wondering what con badges that flamingo is wearing :)

I'm having difficultly making out the writing in the photo...

Because we are moving to Japan this week, I've had to drastically reduce my amount of figures. I've sold many to a local store (thank GOD for Bookmans in Mesa, AZ!) and gave several to friends. I'd accumulated a lot of stuff over the years, but this move has forced me to gain perspective on life and prioritize what is truly dear to me. It's been a bit painful, but this has been for the best. We're also having to trash all sorts of papers and junk a bunch of books, plus donating stuff to Goodwill like crazy. It's like a butterfly leaving its cocoon behind. Once it spreads its wings, it doesn't look back at the cocoon it has left behind. I've made a lot of money on these figures, but I think going forward, I'll focus only on buying figures that really stand out to me.

I am keeping my figures of Linna from BGC, Etna from Disgaea, Sakura Taisen figures, my pre-painted Madoka garage kit, My Space Adventure Cobra figure, and my Tales of Phantasia figures.

Aoshima freaking kicks ass. Hey, when I move to Fuji City next month, do you want to go with me and pound on their doors and ask for a tour?

I started putting together a Knight Rider model by Aoshima before I moved to Japan. Since I sold my airbrush, I'll have to wait a while before I can resume work on that. I also have their Interceptor from Mad Max/Road Warrior. I am very excited to see a 1:24 Mach 5! I'd like to get that one, too.

We're going to Fuji tomorrow to look for an apartment. Once the dust settles after we move in, I'll have my dad come stay with us for a few months. After then, let's get together sometime. I'm sure you can show me some great plamo stores in Tokyo I've never been to before.

Just got the brand new release of Kurama. I love it when they do new releases of characters from anime most people don't remember (keep in mind, this board is not typical of "most people") It is part of Kotobukiya's ARTFX J line, "bringing classic Japanese characters to their fans worldwide."

He comes with two different right arms to change the pose slightly and two loose roses as well as the rose whip for him to hold onto, or not, your choice.

Was just watching "Thunderbirds Are Go!" on TCM the other day and realized I never put together my FAB-1 I got in 1980. A nice kit from imai. My bud has translated the instructions into English, so I could have put it together at any time.

Well, off to the 100th anniversary of The Hymers Fall Fair. Looking forward to seeing some friends from the area there.
