I remember seeing a couple of fansubbed episodes of the show nearly 20 years ago and all I can remember is how hilarious it was. I should send a bunch of episodes over to my Xbox and watch them with her.
Yeah, I remember seeing the tapes available a while ago but never got around to watching them. The first fansub copies I had were digital rips of the VHS fansubs that I started watching at University about ten years ago, but like most stuff I watched then, I quickly dropped it due to classes and such. The new fansubs I have use DVD masters but as far as I can recall, the scripts themselves have not changed.

Yeah, I know that I could get rid of every compatibility issue by using a media system like that rather than running off of a USB directly connected to the TV. But, ya know, effort or something like that. One thing about using a homemade Linux box I'm not thrilled about would be using a remote with it. Maybe I could research one of the media center distributions and see how they handle it. I know that after messing with Linux servers all day/week at work, last thing I want to do after work or on the weekend is deal with an uncooperative Linux box.

I was thinking of using a wireless trackball or something, but it wouldn't be as convenient as my Xbox's remote. Plus, there may be some compatibility issues between Linux and whatever video card with HDMI.

As a side note, I recently had my friend Stateside obtain Windows 7 off eBay for me to install on my desktop. With this latest Windows 8 fiasco and with how terrible every other iteration of Windows has been, and my reluctance to pay through the nose for Apple's Colorful Shiny Objects, I am so willing to just go straight Linux, except for compatibility issues. Maybe I'll start a Linux thread in the Off Topic section.

I've resumed watching Nadesico again. It's been a month or so. My daughter has enjoyed watching this show, so fortunately I have somebody to get me through the episodes. I've finally made it to disc 3. The show is definitely growing on me. They even FINALLY mentioned in passing that Gai's murderer was apprehended and had a court martial. Why wasn't this addressed earlier in the show instead of being ignored? What was the motivation? Maybe it will be later explained. For now, I'm enjoying the mecha action and such. It's making me want to build that Akazuki's custom mecha I bought for only 300 yen at a local hobby store.

I must be a special sort of dumb because I never thought about that. I wonder how much support for open drivers there are for wireless/RFID peripherals like that there is? That's where I would expect the breakdown to be. With both nVidia and ATI having an about face on open drivers & protocols for their hardware, I'm not at all worried about a video card that won't work. We're having dinner with one of my good friends (who got me first interested in Linux/FOSS, etc.) and his wife tonight, I'll ask him if he knows.

I would turn my last Windows box back to 7 in a heartbeat, if it hadn't "become my fiance's laptop" from 8. I heard (somewhere) that the rumor mill has Win9 returning to 7 styling and function and ditching Win8 Metro UI.

Start that Linux thread, too. Be glad to hop in and talk shop. Compatibility is something that is still present in *nix environments but is no longer a nightmare it used to be. Probably more folks around here that know/use it than I might assume, so, maybe some of my issues can be addressed/resolved.

On topic - was helping my fiancee house/dog-sit for an acquaintance of hers, so I got to sit around anf watch cartoons all morning. I was told to bring DVDs, so I didn't even take a flash drive. Decided to sit back and watch some of the second half of Yoroiden Samurai Troopers/Ronin Warriors for nostalgia's sakes. I think I am starting to understand why not many of my friends like the show but I still get a kick out of it.

Going through watching some of Yuji Moriyama's work, so I watched the first episode of Jungle de Ikou. ...was not expecting her to be magical girl esque. And man was it typical pervy anime, haha! I loved the OP/ED themes though. Since it's only 3 eps, I'll finish it.

Rewatching Dirty Pair for the moment, and I now realize why Kei was such a favorite of mine.

Finished Gravion, which I had avoided until now. It was OK. I'll check Zwei later.

For newer shit, I'm currently with Argevollen, Aldnoah.Zero and Resonance of Terror (or is it Terror of Resonance). So far, so good.

Have you read the DP novels? Kei is actually the main character. They're written in the first person from Kei's perspective. So although it may not be apparent in the anime, Kei is the more developed character. (I still like Yuri more though!)

I still, to this day, feel Dirty Pair has some amazing 'setting' work, just lovely backgrounds and details and stuff. Not to mention I still really like the slightly 'rounded' look of the girls. I would have liked it had they managed to crank out an entire year of episodes.

Which brings me to my current watching, ADV's second part of the first series of City Hunter. Lots of Dirty Pair 'stock background' chara show up. :)

But I was NOT prepared for the 'second 25' OP credit. Song is a bit better, more fitting the tone of the series, and the images are OK but it still all pales compared to the (surprisingly kept) ED theme 'Get Wild' and the lovely imagery that goes with it. Also, working in the new OP song in the episodes themselves is amusingly clumsy. Overall, at least for the first 5 episodes of the set, it's like they're still trying to find their groove, the tone of the show. After half a year you'd think it would be more locked down.

And the Dr. Slump movies arrived. Much goodness. :)

Started watching Outlaw Star again. It's been a pretty long time since I've seen it, enough that the episodes are a pleasant surprise here and there. Also slowly going through the first few episodes of Panzer World Galient, for a dose of non-grappler ship oriented mecha combat, with a splash of After War Gundam X to round out the big machines pummeling one another.

For something newer, took the time to watch the film, Majokko Shimai no Yoko to Nene. It has an almost Ghibli feel to it, and maybe a dash of the recent short film, Little Witch Academia. It was nice to see something recent that didn't have the fanservice elements dialed up to 11.

I been watching some Soutpark. BTW, start that linux thread. I got four Sun 4100x servers with Solaris 10 and nothing to do. I think a linux thread would be fun!
